Overview
Switzerland is located in Western Europe, and is bordered by Germany, France, Italy and Liechtenstein. The country’s geography is split between the Alps, the Central Plateau and the Jura. The largest cities are mainly found on the Plateau, including the two global, economic cities Zurich and Geneva. Switzerland is one of the richest countries in the world today, and hosts numerous international organizations, including the second largest UN Office, the Red Cross, the World Trade organization, the International Labor Organization as well as the International Olympic Committee and FIFA.
Switzerland is a federal republic consisting of 26 districts, and has a long history of neutrality. In fact, it has not been in an international state of war since 1815. It joined the United Nations in 2002.
