Overview

The Principality of Liechtenstein is the only alpine country which is situated entirely in the Alps. To the west and south of Liechtenstein lies Switzerland, and to the east, Austria. It covers around 61.7 square miles and has approximately 35,000 citizens. The capital is called Vaduz. According to the CIA World Factbook, Liechtenstein has the highest GDP per person on the planet. It is the smallest but richest German-speaking country in the world today, with a strong financial division in Vaduz. It has also been declared a tax haven.

Liechtenstein is a constitutional monarchy, divided into eleven metropolises. It is not a member of the European Union, but is part of the European Free Trade Association and the European Economic Area. It is a popular winter sports destination.
