Ivan Iskrov was born on 26 March 1967 in Pirdop. He graduated from the University of National and World Economy, Sofia and obtained an MSc in economics (finance and credit) in 1992.He taught Banking Management at the University of National and World Economy from the year 1992 to 1993. In 1994 he attended an educational program organized in Sofia by the US Treasury and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago with a specialty in Business Communications. In 1999 Iskrov traveled to the USA to attend postgraduate studies focusing onĀ Mortgage Securities and Markets in USA.
Between the years 2001 to 2003 he served as an MP at the Bulgarian National Assembly, Chairman of the Budget and Finance Commission, Member of the European Integration Commission, and Member of the Bulgaria-EU Joint Parliamentary Commission. In October 2003 Ivan Iskrov attained the position Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank.
