A national strike against the Fiat Auto manufacturer was held by the autoworker’s union. The union protested being excluded from the worker–management contract negotiations.
Recently, Fiat made a contract with more moderate unions to improve productivity in the Mirafiori factory. The engineering division of the left wing labor union, CGIL, organized the one day strike against the Fiat Company.
The Mirafiori plant autoworkers agreed to the contract by a small majority.
Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat, explained that unique contracts are needed at each factory to increase productivity.
The union has labeled unique factory contracts as an attack against the workers rights.
