Tomorrow night, Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be the guest of honor at the annual dinner of the American Ireland Fund taking place in Lincoln Center. Attendance is expected at about 1200 and the event should raise more than $2.5 million for various Irish charities.
Dinner Honorees
At the event, the Leslie C. Quick Jr. Leadership Award will be given to Irial Finan, the Executive Vice President of the Coca-Cola Company and the President of the Bottling Investments Group. The Humanitarian Award will be given this year to Muhammad Ali.
American Ireland Fund Goals
The overall purpose of the dinner is to raise money for The Ireland Funds, which will then be distributed to charities of all sorts. To date, The Ireland Funds have raised money for over 1200 non-profit organizations in Ireland and around the world. Their goal is to be the largest worldwide network of people of Irish ancestry and friends of Ireland raising money to support programs that promote peace, arts, education and community development.
The Taoiseach’s busy program in New York prior to the dinner will include interviews with Reuters and Fox Business News, and Out of Ireland television program, a visit to the New York Stock Exchange and a lunch at the Council on Foreign Relations.
