BNRG was founded in Dublin in 2001 by Neil Holman and David Maguire. Headquartered in Dublin’s International Financial Services Center, it is now a major part of the IDA’s Green IFSC Initiative. They are focused on developing a solar park and are investing in the IDA Green Initiative along with London-based Lightsource Renewable Energy.
As Stephen Nolan, the executive director of Green IFSC said, “We aim to increase ‘green assets’ managed or serviced in Ireland from today’s $20bn to $200bn by 2017.”
BNRG now has planning permission for the next 25 years for their 20mw solar park. It will be based on a 120 acre farm based in Old Romney in Kent. It will produce enough electricity to power 6600 homes and will have 82,000 solar panels.
After the recent investment, Mr. Maguire said
“Green IFSC has done a great job promoting Ireland as a centre for green finance. Ireland could become a major international centre for sustainable energy development and finance, just as it previously became a major international centre for aviation and aviation finance. There is no reason why renewables can’t go the way of aviation finance in Ireland.”
