“Hands off our Rock, that’s what I say.” These are recent words from London mayor Boris Johnson, as published in Monday’s Daily Telegraph. He issued a stern warning to Spain over Gibraltar after Madrid said that they would be taking “all necessary measures” to defend their interests in Gibraltar.
Mayor Johnson increased border checks and urged the government to “prise Spanish hands off the throat of our colony.”
Britain threatened, last week, to send warships to Gibraltar and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said that his country would take “all necessary measures” to defend their interests.
Johnson continued to say, “This isn’t a row about fish. I am afraid that this is a blatant diversionary tactic by Madrid. The euro is the crisis facing the Spanish government, not the right of the Gibraltarians to fish off their own Rock.”
